The Westside UU Congregation has a tradition of a deep commitment to the spiritual growth of our children and youth. The passion and strength of our programming is a direct result of that commitment. What is spiritual growth for children? Why is a child's spiritual growth important? And what is Westside doing to ensure the highest quality programming for our children and youth? A spirited service about the Spirit of Children.

Rev. Mark Newton & Guests
November 7, 2010
With Rev. Mark Newton leading, men of our congregation will reflect on their experiences of being fathers and grandfathers. What are the lessons these men have learned and want to share? What have they carried forward from their own fathers and grandfathers, and what have they chosen to leave behind?

You have to be kidding me, ‘Yoga, Demonic’?
Rev. Peg Morgan
October 17, 2010
Recently a Rabbi wrote in the Seattle Times that he is puzzled as to why so many people here in the northwest like drawing from lots of religions. He is not impressed with that approach to religion and spirituality. Then a prominent Seattle preacher called yoga demonic. Today I had planned to talk about uncertainty and hope. I still will, but these other clergy make such a discussion all the more fun!

Finding (or Stumbling Into) Authentic Community
Rev. Mark Newton
October 10, 2010
Is finding authentic community important in our lives? If it is, what lessons can be drawn from the Buddhist concept of Sangha; from other perspectives on authentic community; and from our own experiences of life? Mark will explore these questions with us and share examples and lessons from his own journey.

August 1, 2010
Today Rev. Peg will talk about what it is like to be at a continental General Assembly of Unitarian Universalists…the most moving moments, the surprises, and the decision about whether we should boycott Phoenix because of the law passed in Arizona. Come expecting to be touched in your heart, to be challenged and to be proud to be a part of Unitarian Universalism.

Radical Hospitality
Rev. Peg Morgan
June 20, 2010
Today I will share some thinking about hospitality…what does it really mean to be hospitable…in our homes, in our congregation, in our hearts? This is a special day in the life of our congregation as many Unitarian Universalists from the Rainier Valley Congregation will begin joining in with us on Sundays, contemplating their membership with our congregation. And speaking of hospitality, our new Transylvanian partner church minister, Rev Attila Vagyas will be visiting us this week, and will participate in this service.

Immigration: He Drew a Circle that Shut Me Out
Rev. Peg Morgan
June 6, 2010
Today I will reflect on the political and spiritual issues related to the new Arizona law. How do our UU principles inform our view of this legislation? How should we as a religious body respond to this law? Should our General Assembly scheduled to be in Phoenix in 2011 cancel and move to another state?

When Feeling Guilty, Do Something Good
Rev. Peg Morgan
January 24, 2010
It’s painful to be feeling guilty…once we realize we have missed the mark, how can we dig ourselves out of the muck? This sermon is for everyone who has a memory of a moment they wish they could do over.
